A robot in every home
Reality is finally catching up to science-fiction hype on artificial intelligence, according to the New York Times, RAW STORY has learned.
According to the Times, following two decades of little progress, artificial intelligence is now advancing rapidly on the basis of both more powerful computers and new data on how the human brain functions.
The new field of "cognitive computing" is still found primarily in academic and business research centers. However, a few of its innovations have already made their way into production, including such things as voice control systems for automobiles and life-saving underwater vision systems for swimming pools.
Robotic systems for phone directory information now have a 74% accuracy rate, and experimental robot cars are becoming increasingly able and sophisticated. There is even a robot that can use a hammer and screwdriver to put together a booksheft
The Times article concludes:
"It's time to build an A.I. robot," said Andrew Ng, a Stanford computer scientist and a leader of the project, called Stanford Artificial Intelligence Robot, or Stair. "The dream is to put a robot in every home."
