Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine got an early Christmas present this morning.

His candidate for president, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, drew the top spot on the Democratic ballot in Virginia's primary on February 12.

On the Republican side, primary voters will have to look far down their ballots to cast votes for the GOP's 2008 frontrunners. Texas Rep. Ron Paul drew the top spot.

Obama rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York drew the third position on the Democratic ballot, behind dark-horse candidate and Ohio Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, during a random drawing held today at a State Board of Elections meeting at the Capitol in Richmond.

The fourth, fifth and sixth positions on the Democratic ballot belong to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Delaware Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. and former N.C. Sen. John Edwards.

On the GOP ballot, Paul will be followed by Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will appear in the fifth position on the ballot. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be in the sixth and last position.
